Let’s look back at the weekend that was the ‘Australian Poker Tour’ inaugural championship. And what a huge success it was with almost 1500 players registering throughout the weekend across all events and almost $94,000 in prize money awarded to the top place finishes.

Let’s break this down, 9 events filled the weekend from Friday evening through to Monday night, and I present your champions!

Event 1 – No limit holdem freeroll with top up

To kick off the weekend we started with a freeroll with an optional $15 topup. We had 197 players take a seat which was a fantastic result for the kick off event at Acacia Ridge.

Unfortunately we didn’t catch the winners for a glory photo!

Event 2 – Main event – No limit holdem – $50,000 prize pool

This was a three day event – three day one flights attracting 498 players with the surviving 99 back for day 2 on the Sunday where we played down to the October 9 and played out the final table on Monday afternoon.

There could be only one! And it would be Greg McKenzie from the Sunshine Coast who went into heads up play with the chip lead and never looked back.

Event 3 – Pot Limit Omaha

This event attracted 52 players which was a great start with many having never played this variation before.

1st – Phillip Sayers

2nd – Terry Brockhurst

3rd – Nathan Scheiwe

Event 4 – No limit holdem freeroll with top up

1st – Aaron Paul

2nd – Simon Mutton

3rd – Kris Wooster

4th – Midge Swazbrook

Event 5 – Bounty event – No limit holdem

1st – Ida Nautu

2nd – Isaac Mundanby

3rd – Narelle Heron

Event 6 – No limit holdem freezeout

1st – Cameron Edwards

2nd – Jermon Swazbrook

Event 7 – No limit holdem freeroll with top up

The winners were too cool for a photo and we were too slow to catch them!

Event 8 – Teams event – No limit holdem

Winners are grinners !

Event 9 – High rollers – $25,000 prize pool

1st – Paul Ward

2nd – Adrian Ashford

3rd – Gordon Kudelka

We had players come from far and wide to join this event including New Zealand (Hijak Poker), Cairns, Townsville, Victoria and everywhere in between.

We had live streaming on Twitch with Tom from Lights Camera Action Poker (@lcapoker) with full RFID card reading technology and a thirty minute delayed stream to Twitch. Tom is one of the most professional dealers in the business!

For its first ever event the Australian Poker Tour was a huge success with a $50,000 prize pool for the main event (versus the $35,000 Guaranteed) and its only going to get bigger! Next stop to be confirmed but the ‘word on the street’ is we are coming to a venue near the Gold Coast in February … to be confirmed.

If you were there, tell your friends and we will see you at the next one! If you weren’t … good news – you have a chance to redeem yourself  early 2018!

Yours in Poker

The Poker P.I. aka The Prince
